Comparison
EverBranch vs Twine
EverBranch vs Twine: consumer story app vs IF authoring tool. Which fits readers who want finished branching stories on mobile?
What Twine is
Twine (twinery.org) is a free tool for creating interactive fiction and hypertext games. Authors link passages, publish HTML files, and distribute via itch.io or personal sites. Twine is not a mobile story store—it is authoring software.
What EverBranch is
EverBranch is a reader app with a curated catalog of branching stories. You download the app or use the web reader—you do not assemble passages yourself unless you join the author editor waitlist.
Twine alternatives for readers
If you searched 'Twine alternatives' as a reader wanting finished games on your phone, you likely want a consumer IF app, not another authoring tool. EverBranch, Choice of Games titles, and similar apps package branching fiction for mobile reading.
If you want to write IF, Twine remains a strong free option. EverBranch's editor targets authors who want a visual graph editor integrated with a reader platform.
